About This Winery
One hundred miles north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, along picturesque Highway 128, is the tasting room and organic vineyards of Yorkville Cellars. The winery specializes in aromatic Sauvignon Blanc, rich Bordeaux blends and great country charm.
Heading west toward the Mendocino coastline is a country road that winds past sheep ranches, apple and peach orchards, redwood forests and the organic vineyards of Yorkville Cellars. It is the first winery you come to in the Anderson Valley, located near the tiny berg of Yorkville (population 25).
The wood-sided tasting room is perched above the vineyards and has one of the nicest views in the valley. Large mature oak trees dot the property, with picnic areas available for visitors. Inside is a comfortable room with oriental carpets complementing the wood walls and tasting bar. Some pottery and other gift items are for sale.
Yorkville Cellars’ wines are made in the European style, with lower alcohol and higher acidity to complement food. Case lots are small and run between 500 and 1,000 cases. The red blends are produced from the five traditional Bordeaux grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The white blend is made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. All the varietals are produced in separate bottlings, and all of Yorkville’s wines are from organically certified grapes from Anderson Valley. Their own 30-acre vineyard has been farmed organically since it was planted in the 1980s.↑ Less
