Why should you visit Italics Winery?
Italics Winery is headed by Ken and Mike Martin. They bought a plot just east of Napa, in a place called Coombsville, because the volcanic soil is perfect for the Bordeaux varietals and blends that they wanted to grow for their wines. Their big goal was to tell the story of each vineyard block with proper emphasis through grapes, and they needed a particular soil to do that. As they say on their webpage, modern winemakers can have all the tools in the world to grow their grapes, but it won’t fix the soil that they have to work with.
And you can see them weaving their stories when you are in Coombsville by making an appointment to tour the Italics Winery on Rapp Lane. They are working on building a tasting room, but in the meantime, they set up a very cushy and modern-looking room in their wine cave for anyone wanting to taste their wines in their caves. You can also set up an appointment for a special in-depth tour of their working caves while ‘thieving’ wine, or get a tour of the vineyard with a picnic lunch. However you like to enjoy your wine tasting, Italics Winery will give your experience the right emphasis.
When you visit you will probably get to enjoy the fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and the Petit Verdot. You may be able to sample their white wine blend as well.
