About This Winery
m2 creates dynamic, artisan wines combining old-world craftsmanship and modern practices. From stellar Zinfandels to exciting Rhone varietals and dynamic blends grown in distinctive vineyards in Lodi and the Sierra Foothills our wines fully express the character of the vineyard and the fruit of the vine. Visit m2 and experience the simple joy of delicious wine.
A combination of guts, grit, instinct for unadulterated quality, not to mention a finely honed sense of humor, have all turned m2 Wines, driven by the one-and-only Layne Montgomery, into one of Lodi’s most acclaimed boutique sized wineries.
Randy Caparosa, Editor at Large, Sommelier Journal and Contributing Editor, The Tasting Panel Magazine.
Layne and Karen Montgomery made their first 30 gallon barrel of wine in 1999 and met Chris and Diana Matheny in the spring of 2000. They made a single 60 gallon barrel of wine together that fall as a hobby, and that early collaboration went on to produce numerous award-winning wines.
The name m2 was chosen for the name of the winery because … well, you’ll figure it out. Somewhere along the way the idea of creating a commercial winery came to life and m2 was incorporated in May 2004.
From stellar examples of Lodi Zinfandel to classic Napa Cabernet to exciting Rhone wines from the Sierra Foothills, m2 wines are created to fully express the character of the vineyard and the fruit of the vine as wine that is true to itself – balanced, complex, approachable and age-worthy.
The m2 wines tasting room is a informal cozy space where the focus is on the wine.↑ Less
