About This Winery
Why visit Niner Wine Estates in Paso Robles California?
Paso Robles wineries are all about the full experience, and few achieve this desire like Niner Wine Estates. They have an award-winning restaurant where they serve food that they grow on their estate, provide tours of their LEED-approved gravity-fed winery, and, of course, serve their flagship wine, Fog Catcher.
If you want to skip the restaurant, they have a tasting room that is to die for. The walls are faux stone and pine and they leap up to high, vaulted ceilings that are supported with contrasting dark wooden beams. And the view from the wide windows impresses. You can see the wide sweep of Heart Hill Vineyard. The hills are magnificent. If you need to see more, including their famous oak grove, you can sign up for a tour. This would include a guided tasting of their Reserve Library wines and a tour through their wine-making rooms. Their staff will take you to the highest point in their vineyard just so you can savor the expansiveness of it. And when you are done with the view, they will happily educate you about what you’re seeing.
The Niner family first purchased Bootjack Ranch in 1999. It is currently comprised of 125 planted acres. Varietals include Sauvignon Blanc, Barbera, Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, there are smaller blocks of blenders Malbec, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot.
In addition to winegrapes, Smoot and Niner vineyard manager Jerry Grant have planted a grove of about 50 olive trees. They plan to add another two acres (about 200 more trees) next year. Just as grapes thrive in the Mediterranean-like climate, so do olive trees. The trees add a beautiful element to the landscape, and Dick and Pam intend to eventually press the olives to make their own Niner olive oil.
As you can see, there is a lot enjoy at Niner Winery Estates, so make sure they are on your “must visit” list when you are in Paso Robles wine country.
