About This Winery
Traditions are a general feature of wineries, and few places honor them quite as well as Ovid Vineyards. Their name even invokes Classical Rome, as they use the name of the author of the Metamorphosis. Their philosophy is to take the best traditions in winemaking and combine them with modern sustainable farming methods and lasting relationships to make their wine estate long-living.
And you certainly want this winery to last. Capitalizing on the red rock hills around Saint Helena, they grow their vines amidst the fog-dappled oak groves. Overseeing this naturally beautiful area is an architectural wonder of a winery. Created by the architect Howard Backen, this long, low wooden ranch house is entered by a glass-encased porch and leads down a long hall. This puts you in a tasting room decorated in dark polished wood and luxurious white carpet. The real treat is going out on the tiled patio, where you get an Eagle’s view of the surrounding landscape. The wrap-around porch sports deep chairs and rails for leaning on. To top all this, their wines are some of the best. They blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot into a stunning Bordeaux inspired blend. The proportion of each varietal is altered each year depending on the harvest. You can be assured they will get the correct balance in their wine. Their wines are tannic and well-structured, so you can age a wine from Ovid Vineyards for up to 25 years.
You can feel good about drinking Ovid wine because they are focused on sustainability. They farm organically, raise bees and use cover crops. Just another great reason to visit this amazing winery.
so if you want the full Wine Country package of great views, fine wines and comfortable tasting rooms, give Ovid Vineyards a call.
