Peter Michael Winery only offers tastings to club members.

In Calistoga, there’s a winery that believes in the land. Cover crops keep the soil thick on the rolling hills. Tilling and spraying is done by truck and everything else is done by hand to make sure the estate is preserved for future generations.And it isn’t a wonder that the owners are so protective: Peter Michael Winery is a beautiful stretch of terroir, home of a sparkling lake and thick groves of cedar. Their vines cover rocky hills, and above all this sits the winery itself, a white, two-story building that looks colonial outside, with a bell tower and wide verandah.

Inside, however, is very modern, with track lighting and comfortable leather couches. This place is where they bring their 15 different bottlings, each barrel being vineyard specific and lovingly curated. All the fruit is harvested using 20-pound fruit lugs to preserve their condition while they are transported to their winery. While very few people can visit this beauty spot, you can enjoy their wine and enjoy the fruits of their winery.

Gaining access to the wines at Peter Michael winery isn’t easy. You must sign up for their waiting list. Then you must wait and wait and wait. They quote a six to months for a person on the waiting list to be elevated to an active member. At that point, you will receive two allocations of their wine per year.

The winery produces top quality Cabernet Sauvignon blends, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. The wait is well worth it to get access to these rare fine wines. Because the production is very limited, it’s unlikely you will find these wines in retail locations.
