The county’s most prominent geographical feature is Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in California. Offsetting the Clear Lake Basin and its rich agriculture soils are the county’s rugged mountains. Cobb Mountain, 4,722 feet, is in the southern end of the county within the Mayacamas Range. Snow Mountain, 7,056 feet, in the vast Mendocino National Forest is at the northern end of the county, is the county’s highest peak. The area has warm days averaging in the mid-90’s in August. Evenings are cool and there is low humidity. At the lake level rainfall averages 25 inches annually and up to 60 inches in the mountains.
