Why should you visit Daou Vineyards in Paso Robles?
The North West portion of the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area, called the Adelaida District, has long had a certain attraction to outsiders. Daniel and Georges Daou were particularly smitten when they saw the great mountain at the heart of the district. They knew immediately that this was the perfect terroir for producing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. The slope and calcareous soil is well suited for growing wine grape.
The mountain is wildly beautiful, and the Spanish Colonial structure on top provides a view of the valley that will take your breath away. Once you are in the entrance, you will find an ornate iron door framed by blue and red tiles that complement the adobe walls and red tile roof perfectly. This is the first hint of what artistic delights are in store, which includes a fountain with 3 spigots and a white marble bar. The red tile floors and luxurious couches make a great backdrop to their premium wines. And you have a choice of experiences. The patio and the terrace host wine tastings with the intent to show off the effects of the terroir of the Adelaida District. If you like wine pairings, you have 2 options. There is a pairing that matches cheese and charcuterie to their wines, and another where the resident chef cooks you a full meal. You can enjoy all this on in their barrel room. The Adelaida District has treated the Daou brothers well, and they want to share this through fine architecture, flavors and, of course, wines in their winery.
The owners of Daou Vineyards are truly fascinating men. French immigrants of Lebanese descent, the Daou brothers founded a technology company that is worth millions. They had already accomplished enough to cement their legacy as entrepreneurs and savvy businessmen before stepping foot on the ground that would become Daou Vineyards. We are lucky as wine lovers that the Daou family is now dedicated to producing world-class wines at their Paso Robles vineyard and winery.
