Futo Wines sits near the exclusive Harlan Estate. It shares in Oakville’s rugged beauty and perfect wine-growing soil. The winery is housed in a white adobe building that sits at the end of a winding uphill drive. Madrone trees greet you at the property. Flagstone paths lead you to the winery. Wood benches around a stone fountain provide a relaxing ambiance outside. The exposed wooden beam ceilings provide it inside. Tom and Kyle Futo started their winery in the 1980’s, and they hired Howard Backen designed the architecture. Backen’s love of creating buildings that are in harmony with their landscape shows, as the mountainous, peaceful land blends perfectly into the buildings.

The Futo brothers believe in working their hillside farms by hand. Their management is 100% in-house. They grow grapes at 2 vineyards. There is one Futo Wines vineyard in Oakville and there is one in the Stags Leap. These 25 blocks of vineyards have a variety of the topography and microclimates. That makes them fantastic places to grow the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot grapes for Futo Wines.

The winery is in the Oakville Estate, and its streamlined and gravity fed from blends into the old growth oak forest, adding to the serenity of the land. To enjoy the natural beauty of the winery, you will have to call the Futo brothers and set up an appointment. If you are planning a trip to Napa, you will need to plan accordingly.
