Jeriko Estate is a grand affair with broad spaces, great lawns, a very hip tasting room and hand-crafted artisan wines made from 100 percent organically grown and certified grapes.

The dramatic tasting room has 12-foot-tall glass walls that look into the barrel room. The tasting room floor has a very trendy and attractive stained concrete design. There is plenty of room to roam around and places to explore. A picnic patio can be found by going out a side door.

In 1997, the ranch was planted with new rootstocks and newly available clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sangiovese. The vineyards were planted in a 6 x 6-foot high-density spacing in order to optimize terroir and intensify fruit flavors. Biodynamic and organic farming practices are used to promote plant diversity and encourage soil balance without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides.

In addition to their still wines, two sparkling wines are also produced, and have the distinction of being the nation’s first sparkling wines made from 100 percent organically grown grapes.

My favorite bottle here was the Merlot. Usually I go for different types of red wines but the good flavors made it a crowd favorite. I bought a case of it on my way out!

Dramatic is quite the understatement for this grand tasting room. It is very impressive upon walking through the doors of Jeriko. The smell of a cellar always puts a smile on my face.

We were greeted by a very kind woman who oversaw our tasting. We tasted from their red and white tasting menu. It was kicked off with their Brut which was quite enjoyable. It was not dry and very fruity.
We were off to a good start. However, the only other wine of noteworthiness was their San Francisco Press Wine. If I can read my notes correctly, this is a Syrah blend. It would pair quite nicely with a plate of pasta and a marinara sauce.

Jeriko also had a Pinot Noir. The owner came over to give us his take on the Pinot. Normally, I get it. This time, the Pinot was a complete miss for me.

In having a conversation with the owner, he dropped me like a hot potato when one of the employees came in on their day off. Mid-sentence at that.

The tasting room was not busy it was filled mostly with acqua
