Why should you visit Donelan Wines for wine tasting?

There’s a little winery in the commercial neighborhood of Coffey Lane in Santa Rosa. It’s the baby of Joe Donelan, who uses it to make the best Syrah, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Roussanne, and Viognier he can. He starts out by taking grapes from a string of vineyards in Napa and Sonoma County that he has personally selected. His winemaker, Joe Nielson, then patiently crafts these grapes into balanced and complex wines that truly reflect Donelan’s maxim that you should be passionate about what you do.

One of the best ways to experience this passion for making great-tasting wine is at their tasting room in Santa Rosa. This simple room is elegantly furnished with a palm tree and a gray area rug. Leather chairs and polished floor make this a cozy place for your tasting. Windows give you a view into the inner workings of the winery as you sip through your choice of 2 types of tastings.

There is the ‘Road Less Traveled’ Reserve tasting that focuses on the wines that they made in the most limited numbers, which will include at least 6 wines and a few wines made from single Sonoma County vineyards. The other option is the Donelan Portfolio Tasting, which includes 4 current release wines that best represent their winemaker and their favorite vineyards. These tastings take 60 to 75 minutes and require reservations, so be sure to make the time.
