Powell Mountain Cellars

The Powell Mountain Cellars winery on Blue Rock Road in Paso Robles is a big, asymmetrical ranch with tiered roofs. It stands at the end of a short, broad path leading down to the street, but visitors to Powell Mountain Cellars can sense the relaxed and friendly atmosphere from the road.

All along the side of the road is an expanse of vineyards. Behind these stand pine trees. It’s a wide open, sunny space covering hillocks of grass. Mostly, though, there is the winery itself.

You will pass picnickers with dogs and kids as you walk up to the winery, and inside you will find a sunny-yellow tasting room. You can sip your wines while standing at tables that were made by pushing 2 wine barrels together and topping them with glass covers. The owners, Bill and Kim Powell, make everyone welcome with pastel paintings on the walls and plenty of chat about local goings-on.

The winery tasting room is located in Tin City. This is a small commercial development that is a hot bed for exciting wine makers, breweries and distillers. You can walk between a number of high quality boutique wineries in the Tin City area, so make sure you do some planning before your visit. Some of the wineries are only open for reservations, so check ahead.

They established their winery in 2010, and they have dedicated themselves to making exceptional wines. They have a few blends that are novel and a rich Cabernet Sauvignon they are dying for you to try. The winery owners focus on growing their grapes with sustainable methods. They have six varietals planted over six acres at their vineyard.
