About This Winery
+ More
Woodenhead Wine was founded by the son of Russian immigrants, Nikolai Stetz, and a native Californian Zina Bower. Both of them have been passionate about wine since 1982. They have a long history in the local wine industry of Sonoma county. Their experience shows in the wines they produce. Anyone who walks into their tasting room in Santa Rosa will appreciate that they’ve stuck it out!
The Woodenhead wine tasting room is located in an adobe building on the rural stretch of road by the Mark West Spring Creek. Visitors will appreciate the warm and relaxed atmosphere that exists in the winery. There is a fantastic view of the vines and green fields from the deck. The inside is decorated with funky metal statues and wooden décor. You can sample your wine at the patio tables, but you can also sit at their polished wooden bar. The room is a little out of the way, but it has to be to get you away from the big city that is Santa Rosa.
The tasting room is charming and we are sure you will enjoy hanging there, but the real reason for making a trek to Woodhead is the quality of the wine. They specialize in small hand-crafted batches of reds and a handful of whites, which they make in French oak, then hand punch and basket pressing. They are proud of their all-natural techniques and focus and you will notice the difference all this care makes when you sample their wine. The Pinot Noirs and Zinfandels are a highlight of any visit to the Sonoma wine country. We also suggest you try the winery’s Brut of Rosé.
If a passion for wine is best indulged by sharing, then Nikolai and Zina are doing it right.
