Why visit Loring Wine Company?
At the end of “O” Street in Lompoc, there is an orange and tan building where Brian Loring produces his great love, Pinot Noir. Before opening Loring Wine Company, he was just a wine-lover visiting the Orange County Wine tasting. When he tasted the Pinot from Cottonwood Canyon, he lost his heart to wine. He begged the owner of Cottonwood Canyon Winery, Norm Bekko, to teach him how to make the wine. Norm let him help in the 1997 crush. That was the start of the Loring Wine Company. His sister, Kimberly, joined him in making the wine in 1999, and they have been devoted wine artisans ever since.
Since it is a 2-person winery, you can only tour the Loring Wine Company winery by appointment. You also must call between December and June. However, they do have a brand new tasting room in Buellton, California. Nestled between an ostrich farm and the Hitching Post II Restaurant, it sports a shaded patio and a sunny interior. The neatly landscaped yard looks over the ostrich ranch. We think taking a walk around the grounds with your Pinot is an excellent way to enjoy their wine. If you would rather sample wine in a more traditional bar view, they have a lovely wooden bar to sit at. Here you can taste their regular wine flight and a single-vineyard wine flight. They even offer cookies, which are a surprisingly good pairing for their wines. If you like your Pinot Noirs off the beaten path, check out the Loring Wine Company tasting room. We think you will enjoy tasting it as much as Brian and Kimberly enjoy making it.
