To all who just drive on by this lovely place along hwy 46e and never give a glance need to look again. The staff are top notch and the whole place is to just die for. They may be a smaller than others but by far the warmest and wanting to return again and again.

Stop Here you'll find a wine to enjoy, the selection is huge. Our 2nd visit to Tobin James and we were not disappointed. 1 of the owners Lance was pouring the wines and he is such a nice person. Their best wines are not cheap, but they are excellent. I purchased Blue Moon Zin and a large format Fat Boy Zin. This is not a close to town winery, but it is worth the drive. Again great people, fun place, good value especially their wine club.

This place is a riot -- definitely unlike any other tasting room you'll probably run across. It has an Old West theme, so you feel like you're in a cowboy movie, with a big, intricately-carved bar with a huge mirror behind it and the staff dressed in a western theme. Interestingly, they offer a variety of video games so you can play some Golden Tee while you sample their wines. There's also a great big outdoor fireplace with tile mosaic decorations. We especially enjoyed their bubbly, and their pours were very generous. This is a must stop for a Paso Robles visit.

So... One of the reasons I moved to Paso Robles... I love to go wine tasting whenever I can! My favorite, by far, is Tobin James Cellars. I belong to their wine club and it is the best value, like half off their reserves. What really got me was their tasting room. I walked in and immediately felt at home. They were very friendly and the owners even poured for me, a rarity. The wines were spectacular, very approachable with a good balance of fruit and finish. My favorite is their reserve Syrah, wild berry flavors with an oaky and earthy finish. This is a definite must stop place! Watch out for Saturday's though, it can be hard to make your way to the bar with all the people.

The tasting room is a hoot and is almost a party like atmosphere. Staff could not have been friendlier despite the huge crowd that showed up when we were there. Wine is pretty good but it would be worth going there even if the wine was so-so.

With a western theme and very popular area for the younger crowd, this was a pleasant surprise, Knowledgeable staff that can hone in on what you like was a bonus. The white wines are excellent if you like sweeter wines, the reds were average. Reasonable prices for the area is a bonus.

The 4-star rating is for their syrah and not their cabernet or zinfandel or merlot wines which are just average at best. The syrah is the stand out wine and one that we will buy by the case and cellar for several years or longer.

When we asked our friends to recommend Paso wineries we got several suggestions, and then one said "and of course there's Tobin James". It seems everyone knows this winery. That's probably a combination of location (on 46) and the saloon theme. No stuffy wine snobs here. These people want to have fun when they drink their wine.

The wine itself was good. Mostly Zin, there were some good values. I especially liked their Port.

Was a Sonoma County wine snob for many years. But over the past few years their wines have skyrocketed in price and quality has not kept up. Our local wine merchant recently told me about TJ, and then I tasted some at a restaurant in Vegas. We stopped there on our way home last month, and joined the James Gang, and looking forward to drinking much more of their product.

Western ambiance made me feel like an authentic cow girl. My favorite wine was definitely the Syrah Rose. Fun way to travel back in time.

Such a unique winery and tasting room. The wines are not at the top of the list quality wines but they make up for it by having such a fun atmosphere and a saloon-style tasting room that lends to tons of smiles and laughter, good times!

Bought their wines for years, they aren't on my favorites list but consistently good for dinner, etc. They make a lot of wine and have a pretty cowaboy-ish feel to the place but since it's a larger producer it takes a lot of the experience out of it for me. I prefer the smaller mom n pop places but this one is still a unique visit.
