About This Winery
+ More
The Steltzner family planted grapes on their Stag’s Leap district land in 1965 and earned a reputation for growing outstanding Cabernet and Merlot. Originally the land was planted with prune trees and the tasting room area was used to dry the fruit. In the 1980s they took the next step by building a winery and starting their own brand.
They have since added Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to their Oak Knoll estate vineyard. They produce Malbec, the rare Pinotage, Sangiovese, Petite Verdot, Rose of Syrah, and a dry farmed Merlot Port.
The small winery building, with its own clock tower, has a small covered courtyard out in front and is built adjacent to the hillside. Looking toward the hill you spy the entrance to their 18,000 square feet of wine caves. It is here that the wines are aged and perfected, and with their VIP program, can be tasted in their subterranean hideout. The tasting room is pleasant with some logo clothing for sale and owner produced art work on the walls.
