Just above the Santa Ynez Riverbed sits a relatively new winery that is just like a visit to the provincial French countryside. The grounds are dominated by large mature oak trees and by the adjacent vineyard. Rock walls enclose a large courtyard with tables and chairs surrounded by plantings of French Lavender and rosemary, creating an atmosphere of old-world charm.

Visitors enter beneath a trellis heavy with vines and step into a roomy, yet cozy, tasting environment complete with a kitchen and a wood-burning oven. Farther back inside the building are two barrel-ageing caves built into the hillside.

The winery was constructed in 1994 following the initial planting of grapes in 1990. The vineyard farms in an organic bio-sustainable manner, meeting all California Certified Organic Farmer standards. Rhone and Bordeaux varietals are grown on the property.

Wines produced include Estate Wines from their vineyard as well as wines from local grape growers; they include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Syrah Rose, Merlot, Syrah, and Bordeaux blends.

If you love the feel of Europe and a "Calgon Take Me Away Moment" then you will love Sunstone. My first ever Wine Tasting Experience was at Sunstone Winery, my boyfriend could not have made a wiser choice. Being that my family heritage is Croatian, very close to Italy, the two divided by the Adriatic Sea... it was like being back home ...enchanting and captivating..Sunstone Winery grounds are amongst the most beautiful I have seen anywhere. It has such a Tuscan/Rustic feel... the ambient and staff surpass any and all expectations you could have ... I love going there when we can... we make it a very special visit, having a picnic then moving on to more ventures... It is a must try ....

Fabulous grounds with beautiful tasting room. The wines are delicious and well balanced. They have excellent Bordeaux and Rhone Varietals along with fantastic blends. The service has always been excellent and they have barrel tastings from time to time for club members. Every time I have been they have treated me like " A Million Bucks".

This is a great place to take have a picnic in the summer. We would grab sandwiches or a variety of other great foods at El Rancho Market on Hwy 246 a couple of blocks from the street that leads to Sunstone and then head over to Sunstone for lunch and tasting. In good weather, they start the tasting outside with the whites and Syrah Rose so you can eat and taste at the same time. When you are done with lunch, you head inside for the reds, A couple of my favorites are Eros and Cabernet Franc which they don't have every year. It is a very nice setting.

As corny as it may sound, I personally had a sunny experience at Sunstone. I think Organic Farming is important for our health, and these folks are certified organic farmers. Visiting the wine caves was interesting and informative. My favorite wine was a Bordeaux Blend.
