About This Winery
+ More
David Homewood started making wine with friends in the early 1980s and had such success that within a few short years he had a bonded winery producing Alexander Valley Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. With each new vintage, new varietals were added including Zinfandel, Merlot and Pinot Noir.
Owner and winemaker David Homewood believes "a hands-off approach to winemaking allows more varietal character to show through." The wines are made with moderate French oak. The reds are unfiltered and unfined at bottling, resulting in rich, robust flavorful wines with soft tannins.
The winery sources grapes from the region, but has a small holding on nearby Mt. Veeder, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Zinfandel are planted. Future plantings of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon will be brought into production soon. Homewood also produces a port Zinfandel.
The winery and tasting room are off the road in a little alley-way. The rustic operation does not overwhelm visitors with much glitz or glamour but does provide complimentary tasting, good wine education, a cozy tasting room and the use of the outside patio deck, dubbed “The Redder da Better Lounge.” Wines are available only in the tasting room and online.
