About This Winery
Wines from the West Sonoma Coast
+ More
Senses Wines was founded in 2011 when three childhood friends reunited to produce small-lot wines focused on Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from family owned vineyards in their hometown of Occidental, California.
The number three in the Senses’ logo represents not only the three co-founders, but also their philosophy that wine should be approached using the three senses: sight, scent and sip.
Senses produces high quality Burgundian style wines in the west Sonoma Coast region of Sonoma County. The Senses team believes that winemaking begins in the vineyard; they source the highest quality fruit and then allow fermentation to occur naturally without the addition of artificial yeasts or bacteria.
The 2012 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir embody the characteristics of the distinct vineyards from where the fruit is sourced. Located less than ten miles from the California Coast, both estate vineyards, Hillcrest and B.A. Thieriot, are exposed to morning fog, coastal breezes and mild afternoon temperatures. The unforgiving maritime influence creates complex wines that exhibit low alcohol, bright acidity, and great depth on the palate.
In 2012, esteemed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown joined the Senses Wines team. Thomas has received multiple 100 point scores from The Wine Advocate’s Robert Parker as well as Wine Spectator’s James Laube, and was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Food & Wine in 2010. Thomas’ expertise with Burgundian varietals, combined with his love of Occidental’s extreme Sonoma Coast growing region make him a natural fit for Senses.
