About This Winery
+ More
Ty Caton Vineyards is located on the site of a winery and vineyards in Sonoma Valley that was founded in the 1920s and ran consistently through prohibition and into the 1940s. The Caton family purchased the property in 1981 and expanded the vineyard.
Winemaker Ty Caton sustainably farms all of the grapes used in our Sonoma Valley wine. As one of the few exclusively estate producers in Sonoma Valley, California, Ty personally works with the grapes from soil to glass. He handcrafts his wines in small lots with an acute awareness of the land that enables him to make wines that truly showcase the vineyards.
The vineyard is divided into 21 blocks, each defined by different sun exposure, soil type, incline, and altitude that varies over 300 feet. Each block is planted with the grape variety that is best suited to the specific conditions. The blocks are hand harvested and vintned individually to retain the distinct character of the vineyard and create expressive wines with distinct terroir.
His winemaking uses limited intervention, which allows the wines to speak for themselves and import the true expression of the vineyard. He ferments with wild yeast that naturally occurs in the grapes so that the wines are manipulated as little as possible.
Ty Caton Vineyards shares a tasting room with neighboring winery Muscardini Cellars. There is a good chance that you will find Ty Caton or Michael Muscardini behind the bar and can experience first-hand the passion behind the wines.
