About This Winery
+ More
Nickel and Nickel was established in 1997 by the partners of Far Niente, whose goal was to produce superior wines from select single varietal vineyards around Napa Valley. Their primary varietal is Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes are sourced from the appellation’s most significant AVAs. They also create a small amount of Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel.
Nickel and Nickel is along Highway 29 in Oakville, happily situated on 42 acres of land that was originally settled as a farmstead in the 1880s. When Far Niente bought the property, the historic farmhouses and barns had fallen into disarray. They refurbished the classic structures, making a lovely tourist attraction for all those who visit the winery. They also built a state-of-the-art modern winery facility that compliments the historic structures on the property while simultaneously producing excellent single-vineyard wines.
Guests are welcomed at the Sullenger House, a beautifully restored, late 19th century farmhouse with Queen Anne detail that was built on the site in the 1880s. Guided tours and tastings are offered several times each day, by appointment. Tours begin at the Sullenger House and include a walk through the historic Nickel & Nickel farmstead: viewing the restored 18th century Gleason Barn, authentic post-and-beam fermentation barn and underground barrel aging cellar. The tour ends with a seated, guided tasting of a selection of four single-vineyard wines. Classical music and jazz plays in the tasting room while guests can enjoy the lovely view of the surrounding mountains.
