About This Winery
+ More
Viader is a leading Napa Valley first growth wine estate and is recognized around the world for consistently producing high quality wines. It was established in 1986 by Delia Viader and is located 1200 feet above the Napa Valley floor, northeast of St. Helena, and on the steep slopes of Howell Mountain. Emulating a European design quite rare in California, the vines are oriented up and down the steep hillsides, a planting method that optimizes sun exposure, vine density and erosion control. Planting on this steep slope has proven to be a challenge over the years and thus is meticulously hand farmed. The vineyard produces an array of varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Syrah, Malbec, and Tempranillo.
Delia Viader turned many heads when she first founded Viader Vineyards. The idea of a single woman running a successful winery business while raising a family of four children on her own was a rare happening in Napa Valley’s developing fine wine business in the late ‘80’s. Today, Viader Vineyards is still a thriving family business. They produce world-class wines from a magnificent, mature estate vineyard property, which is complete with small bonded winery, underground caves, and a Hospitality Center. The estate offers tours and tastings by appointment and a sophisticated wine and food pairing Culinary Program.
When visiting Viader Vineyards, guests can enjoy the panoramic views of the Napa Valley mountain ranges while they sip the wines at a leisurely pace. The Viader family still runs the winery today. Two of Delia’s four children – Alan and Janet – are involved in the family business, along with her daughter-in-law Mariela – a professionally trained chef – who coordinates food & wine pairing experiences for winery guests upon reservation. The Viader family’s residence, vineyards, caves, and tasting room are all on the estate, offering a complete wine tasting experience. They also have two adorable dogs, Lady and Kody, to keep visitors company as they tour the winery and vineyard.
