With over 20 years of grape growing and winemaking experience, Jeff Hansen starts a new brand: Lula Cellars. Named after Hansen’s grandmother, Lula Cellars produces handcrafted, limited-production Mendocino Coast Pinot Noir, along with Zinfandel, Dry Gewurztraminer and Dry Rosé. Always wanting to make wines that he could sell directly to consumers, Jeff Hansen reveals his passion for producing world-class wines.
The vineyard for which the winery’s Pinot Noir comes from is a hidden jewel in the mountain town of Comptche, located ten miles east of the village of Mendocino, at the 700-foot elevation. The vineyard, which was planted in 1998, has three different clones of Pinot Noir. During the growing season, the cool late afternoon ocean air comes in and the temperature drops dramatically. This temperature drop is what gives the varietal an extended growing season as it allows the grapes to ripen at a slower pace.
Lula Cellars is a dream come to reality and the winery welcomes visitors to come and taste their creations.
