About This Winery
+ More
Along Hecker Pass Road you pass large commercial nurseries supporting the population growth of nearby Silicon Valley. A vineyard emerges on the south side of the road, marking the entrance to one of the oldest wineries in the area.
Tucked back away from the road, surrounded by mature trees and a nice green lawn, is the ranch-style red-roofed tasting room of the historic Rancho de Solis. Part of an original 8,000-acre Mexican land grant, the ranch has been growing grapes since the 1920s when the Alfonso Bertero family emigrated here from Italy. Originally planted to Zinfandel and Carignane, the vineyard now grows Chardonnay, Merlot, Muscat Canelli, Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1980 the vineyard was sold to the Vanni family, whose members run the operation today.
Inside, the burgundy-colored carpet leads you down a few steps to the oval
wine-tasting bar and boutique area. There are large windows that look out on the vineyard property and the winery buildings. There are a limited amount of the usual gourmet items, along with artichoke dips and logo clothing for sale as well.
Solis specializes in Merlot and Sangiovese, selling most of their wines in the local area and in the tasting room.
