An Italian oasis in the heart of Amador County is the best description of this destination winery a few miles outside the tiny berg of Plymouth. Amid lushly planted gardens, statues, patios, fountains and their Italian bistro is Villa Toscano’s ornately designed hospitality center.

The Tuscan-themed winery produces a wide range of California varietals,
Rhone-style wines and Italian favorites. Their specialty is their robust Zinfandel. They make five versions, including a late-harvest wine with five percent residual sugar. Their dessert wines include an Orange Muscat and a port.

Once past the garden patio, you enter the richly appointed tasting room adorned with wall tapestries, upscale gifts, wine accessories and a long elegant tasting bar. While you are tasting or browsing through the gift shop, the sound system serenades you with familiar compositions by Italian composers.

In a separate building is the Bistro Deli, serving gourmet salads, sandwiches and other specialties.

Beautiful grounds and lots of picnic tables on the patio.
Large, crowded tasting room - right out of Napa.
Great sandwiches at the bistro on site sandwich shop - enormous pastrami sandwich for $10 - it had to have a pound and a half of pastrami.

$10 tasting fee, which is a bit much for this region. The Tempranillo was very nice. It was dark purple in color, full flavor with some distinct raisin taste, and a great long finish.

The wine prices are reasonable (much less than Napa, but a bit more than other Amador wineries).

Greta place to stop for lunch or to relax and buy a glass of wine. Not as great for tasting because of the crowds and fee.

With Italian music playing you stroll past this great patio to the tasting room and gift shop. The gifts are first class and the wines were good. The winery though seems a bit out of place in the mountains but it was fun. We ended up having lunch there due to the very nice deli on site that made us a great sandwich and a fancy salad.

I will NEVER go here again! My husband and I were devoted fans of this winery until we attended the wine tasting last Saturday. The barrel wine room associate, Andre, was the BIGGEST jerk! I've never met a "wine snob" until I met him. I paid $5 to taste their wine and was treated like a complete idiot. I am so disappointed in the customer service we received. We will put our money and loyalty elsewhere.

The entire concept of this place is out of touch with the region. It sticks out like a Walmart in a small town. Although this does seem to be the trend in this area with new large wineries popping up. Regardless, the perception that you're at an Tuscan villa falls short. Considering that food is scarce in the area, there doesn't seem to be much effort to provide food that you would remember. The wine is average at best but consistent with the area. The gift shop has a lot of overpriced trinkets. The tasting room is friendly but overall this is a place you can skip if you're looking to bring wine home.
