Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz Wine Overview
If you're a fan of sweet red wine, you may have come across Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz. This wine hails from South Africa and is made by Jam Jar Wines. While some wine drinkers may enjoy this red's bold and fruity taste, I found it to be overly sweet and lacking in complexity.
Don't get me wrong; there are certainly people who will appreciate the straightforward and easy-drinking nature of Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz. It's a good option for those new to wine or those who prefer sweeter beverages. However, for more experienced wine drinkers, the lack of depth and nuance may be disappointing.
Overall, Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz is a decent wine for those who enjoy an uncomplicated sweet red. But for those who seek complexity and depth, it may not be the best choice. Keep in mind your personal taste preferences and what you're looking for in a wine before giving Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz a try.
Note: This review is purely subjective and based on personal taste preferences. For more ideas, see our list of the best sweet red wines.
Appearance
The wine is a deep garnet red with a lighter, watery rim. Thick legs/tears form when the wine is swirled.
Aroma
Jam Jar Shiraz has a medium aroma that started was raisiny before it opened. Once the wine has a chance to breathe it features sweet vanilla and a blackberry nose. There is a very slight cheese aroma as well.
Taste
There is medium plus acidity. There is a small burning sensation from the alcohol.
Mouthfeel and Tannins
Mild tannins and a light mouthfeel. That makes sense, given the relatively low ABV of only 12.5.
Finish
There is a medium finish.
Overall Opinion of Jam Jar Sweet Shiraz
This is a very popular wine. I can see this wine appealing to wine drinkers who value a lot of fruity sweetness and don't like have and tannic wines. I don't think this will appeal to anyone who regularly drinks European or higher-quality New World wines. It's probably a good introduction to red wines for someone who is used to drinking fruity or sweet soft drinks or sweet cocktails.
Suggested Food Pairing
Jam Jar suggests pairing this wine with anything from Cheeseburgers to chocolate pudding. I suggest you pair this with any foods you usually pair with soda or lemonade.
