About This Winery
+ More
Bernardo Winery is the oldest continuously operating winery in California. The winery pre-dates the urban expansion of San Diego, so the location can seem a little surprising. You drive through several generic residential subdivisions before arriving at the historic winery compound.
The winery has the feel of a small village. There are several buildings that surround the tasting room. You can find locally roasted coffee, a sandwich shop and a chocolatier nearby a small vineyard. There is an enormous tree that dates back to Juniperro Serra, the father of California wines, just behind the chocolate shop.
Bernardo Winery is a great place to connect with the history of California’s wine industry. They have a number of antique wine making tools spread around the property and a number of plaques that describe how wine was traditionally made.
You can enjoy your tasting at the large bar inside the tasting room or al fresco on the large deck just outside the room.
