About This Winery
+ More
Thirteen years of work by hundreds of craftsmen, $30 million, and the dream of a well-known Napa Valley eccentric have created a full-size Italian-themed winery fortress overlooking Calistoga and the northern Napa Valley. Longtime Napa winery entrepreneur and medieval architecture aficionado Daryl Sattui has outdone even himself with this monumental project that has raised the bar for new destination wineries.
The castle is a meticulously built 120,000-square-foot edifice with 107 rooms on seven levels. There are guard towers, escape tunnels, a dry moat, a fully outfitted dungeon, a labyrinth of cellars, barrel rooms, a church, five towers with battlements and a 2,000-square-foot great hall, complete with lavishly painted frescoes.
The tasting room is downstairs in a spacious vaulted area with a grand stone tasting bar. The wines lean toward Italian varietals but also include popular Bordeaux and Burgundian varietals made with predominantly Napa Valley fruit. Wines are available only at the winery or through their website.
There are regular daily tours of the castle; call for a reservation.
