About This Winery
+ More
Two octagonal geodesic domes that once housed a hippie commune are now the eclectic home of a unique Sonoma County winery. Armida has a loyal following for its well-made, handcrafted wines.
The winery property includes two domes, some outbuildings, a lovely deck and gardens. The tasting room is large and expansive, with displays of wine and gift items as well as a deli case with cheeses, chips and crackers.
Be prepared for the gallows humor at Armida; their slogan is “views to live for, wines to die for.” They produce a fruit-forward Zinfandel branded as Poizin, which is packaged in its own little coffin. There are other nods to “Heaven and Hell” throughout the tasting room, so don’t be frightened by the hooded corpse offering you a glass of the red– wine we hope.
The grapes are sourced from their own small vineyard, as well as from the cooler microclimate of the Russian River Valley, where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive. The warmer growing regions of Dry Creek Valley and Alexander Valley produce the fruit for their Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. They also produce a Gewürztraminer and a Rosé of Pinot Noir.
Their very well-situated deck, offering the shade of a magnificent oak tree, overlooks ponds, a bocce ball court and offers phenomenal views of the valley below.
