Why should you visit Auteur Wines?
Kenneth and Laura Juhasz are in the group of winemakers who believe terroir is king. They create small lots of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from grapes grown in the Willamette Valley, Sonoma County, and Napa County. Their focus is on quantity over quality, and they produce only 2000 cases every year. Their focus seems to be working because Robert Parker awarded their Pinot Noir Labyrinth 95 points in his Wine Advocate Review.
Auteur Wines has its tasting room just off the Historic Sonoma Plaza. This is a pleasant square of green dominated by the stone Sonoma City Hall. Make sure you take a moment to enjoy the views in downtown Sonoma while you sit out in the front of the quaint little cottage.
The house was built in 1915. It has all the homey notes that put a visitor at ease. You will notice how well appointed this tasting room is while you sit at the communal wooden table. They even have a fireplace that they light during the cool, cloudy days that Sonoma is prone to. The table has a classic white tablecloth and the decorations are tastefully modern. You can enjoy the patio in their backyard on nice days. Their communal table affords a view of a very pleasant landscape.
Whether you get the cozy indoor tasting room or the patio, you are sure to find the laid-back atmosphere just right for enjoying these rich wines. Take the time to make an appointment during your next visit to Sonoma. You’ll be glad you did.
