Brion Wise wanted to be a vintner ever since he was a little kid, and his child-like delight shows. His B. Wise winery on Sonoma Highway sports a tasting room that is a man-made cave with leather seats and real exposed rock. You enter it through a stone arch with looming wooden doors. If you want to eat outdoors, you have an array of shady spots with picnic tables to pick from. There’s a porch with seating to view the vineyards and a bocce court to enjoy. Brion lives on the rolling hills of his vineyard and dedicates himself to making wines inspired by the terrain. Fortunately for him, his wife, Ronda West Wise, shares his enthusiasm.

If you want to visit his tasting room, they are as simple as he is. Every single day, you can drop by 10:30 am to 5 pm. And if you are on a biking tour, you can park your bike there.

That is unless you want to experience his exclusive Estate Cave and monopolize his hospitality. You will find alcoves and a salon devoted to his guests’ comfort next to the fermenting and aging tunnels. Art posters from the Roaring 20’s mix with wild-west themed furniture to provide an artistic backdrop to the Cabs and Pinots you will be tasting. There is a stone terrace that overlooks the Sonoma Valley if you want another option for where to sample your wine. You will need to make an appointment for the private tasting. There are limits on group size, so don’t forget to call ahead.
