Self-described as “California Rustic,” this tasting room has been constructed from materials salvaged from original buildings right on the ranch, with the tasting bar built from the salvaged wood of a retired bowling alley. Bleacher seats from the original Wrigley Field are also a part of the mix of materials that make this wine tasting experience truly unique.

An elevated deck ideal for both relaxing and picnicking overlooks the vineyard at Blackjack Ranch. The wines focus on Bordeaux blends as well as Syrah, Chardonnay and Pinto Noir. Wine names include Billy Goat Hill, Suicide Hill, Allusion, Harmonie and Maximus. The grapes are sourced from the local area as well as from their estate vineyard. The winery was blessed by being the location of a scene in the 2005 movie “Sideways.”

I truly appreciated the atmosphere created by Blackjack Vineyard and staff. I was alone in Santa Barbara on business and decided to visit a tasting room. And despite the fact that it was a week day evening there was still a pleasant crowd of people, and the staff was courteous and friendly. Such a lovely place I cant wait to return and not not on work terms.

BlackJack is definitely worth your stop. If you are coming through Santa Ynez/Solvang/Ballard for whatever reason, I'd recommend stopping by. For $10 you get 10 wine samples and for a few more dollars you can keep the glass. I'd recommend any of their Chardonnays or one of their full flavored blends. Cheers! - Pat
