About This Winery
+ More
Bokisch Winery is a great place for lovers of Spanish varietals and an important part of Lodi’s wine scene.
Terra Alta Vineyards spreads over the rolling hills abutting the charming little town of Lockeford. In the middle of these emerald waves of grapevines is Bokisch Winery, run by Markus Bokisch and his wife, Liz. It’s a fantastic place for a picnic, with a view of the Valley that brings a glimpse of Arcadia. It is a little off the beaten path, but the trip is worth it for the sheer rural charm.
You don’t even have to go outside to enjoy the view. The tasting room has wall-length windows. You can enjoy your flights of wine in deep leather chairs. But you might want to close your eyes and truly focus on the flights of wines.
What sort of wines will you find here? Spanish wines. Markus Bokisch vacationed in Spain and has strong family ties there. He also worked in the wineries there. He fell in love with the regional wines. He brought Tempranillo, Albariño and Graciano varietals to the Terra Alta vineyards. Markus has also successfully planted Garnacha Blanca, Monastrell and Verdejo. These whites are zesty and fruity, perfect with ceviche. No wonder they’re popular in Spain. Now you can taste what the Spanish find so appealing while reveling in a view that is pure California.
Markus is a graduate of UC Davis. He has a strong understanding of vineyard management. This allows him to produce top quality Spanish varietals in a sustainable vineyard. You can feel good about drinking wine from Bokisch Winery because they are stewards of the land. It’s always nice to know that a winery owner gets the importance of managing vineyards for the long term.
Liz is an expert in Spanish cuisine. She brings back recipes from Spain and shares them on her blog. You can find some amazing recipes here http://www.lizbokisch.com/
