About This Winery
Caliza is dedicated to the pursuit of perfection
+ More
Caliza in Spanish means "limestone", and the winery itself is dedicated to the pursuit of perfection while respecting the earth, mankind, and traditions. Caliza is located at the end of the quaint and picturesque Anderson Road in the Templeton Gap area of west Paso Robles. Their Rhone-styled wines are a great example of what the Paso Robles terroir has to offer: ideal soil and temperatures to make the most delicious wines. Amongst their red and white Rhones, the winery also produces Cabernet Port, Syrah Rose, Grenache Blanc, and 10 other varieties.
The winery provides a lovely tasting room, tasting fees being $10 per person and the fee is waived if a purchase is made. There is a quaint picnic area nestled by a small garden with a gorgeous view of the rolling hills dappled with oak trees and trellised with rows of grape vines.
The vineyard is comprised of 20 acres of sunny hillsides where the vines are exposed to the full extremities of Paso’s weather: the radiating heat of the day and the cool fog from the coast at the night. These extreme switches of temperature aid in bringing out the best in the grapes, hence a more delectable wine.
This vineyard uses sustainable farming practices by minimizing their use of pesticides and fertilizers, using drip irrigation to manage water usage efficiently, and they prevent erosion by planting native flora on the exposed soil. These practices are all in effect to aid in the improvement of the quality of their wines, as well as keeping the land healthy.
