The dramatic South African Dutch architecture of Chimney Rock Winery stands out from the grapes and hillsides on this southern part of the Stag’s Leap sub-appellation.
The district is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon grapes which create wines with an elegant balance, and velvet, silky tannins. The winery produces a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and a traditional French Bordeaux blend with Merlot, Petite Verdot, and Cabernet Franc added to the blend. The winery also makes white wines; including a partially barrel fermented Fume Blanc and a new Bordeaux style blend of Sauvignon Blanc and the rare Sauvignon Gris.
Chimney Rock Winery is part of the successful Terlato Wine Group that owns a number of fine wine properties including nearby Rutherford Hill Winery, Sanford, Alder Brooks Winery, and Terlato Family Vineyards.
The comfortable tasting room has rich wood accents that contrast nicely with its traditional white walls. A granite-topped tasting island and grand brass chandelier add to the elegant interior. There are formal display cases for gift items and a fireplace to complete the picture. Outside is a patio in the traditional Cape Dutch design. There are extensive vineyard and winery tours available by appointment and many VIP tasting programs.
