About This Winery
+ More
Hidden among towering trees, extensive lawns, thousands of rose bushes and six spring-fed ponds is the 1850s-era farmhouse that fronts as the tasting room for Cline Cellars.
The property was once the site of a Miwok Village; later, it was the first camp of Father Altimira during his quest to establish the Sonoma Mission. It offers sweeping views of the Carneros Valley, as well as lovely spots for picnicking and tasting wine.
The farmhouse has an old-fashioned wrap-around porch with outdoor seating and views of the rock-walled ponds. There are numerous picnic tables and places to explore. Inside the tasting room is a well-stocked gift shop and an
“L”- shaped tasting bar.
Fred Cline pioneered the planting of Rhône varietals in the Carneros region, planting Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. Since the year 2000, Cline Cellars has farmed organically to eliminate reliance on chemical pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers. Vineyard management includes the use of composting, using cover crops, and encouraging beneficial insects in the vineyard. You may spot sheep grazing between the rows to keep the weeds down.
In addition to the Rhone varieties, the winery also specializes in Zinfandel, with a number of vineyard-designated wines as well as half-size bottles available. To brush up on California history, check out the California Missions Museum located on the property.
