Nestled into the east side of the
In 1995 the Johnson Family began planting grapes at Black Rock Ranch. At that time there were only a few other growers in the Red Hills Region. The volcanic soils in this area are suitable for red varietals, so the choice was made to plant Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. They also produce a dry, crisp Sauvignon Blanc.
The simple tasting room doors opened in May of 2003. Currently the winery operates on a seasonal basis, opening its doors Memorial Day Weekend and closing for the winter season at the end of October.
This unique winery is off the beaten path and off the grid employing a combination of solar power and a ground source cooling system. This is a great out of the way place to bring your picnic and enjoy a glass of wine with friends.
