Father, mother, son & daughter are the “Stars” and staff who do it all at Dark Star Cellars. The mood here is relaxed, casual, funky and fun.
From farming to winemaking, bottling to pouring you can always find a member (or two or three) on the premises working to make a impression on the wine and the wine tasting visitor. Just of Highway 46 along Anderson Road is the winery operation (shared with their son’s Brian Benson Cellars) and tasting room. It’s an eclectic affair of wine, gifts, barrels and art.
The large barn-like space has bright “Tuscan Orange” colored walls, wood beams and a homemade triangular shaped tasting bar with inlaid glass. The bar was made by the father and son team from a 30 year old redwood fermentation tank. The same triangular shape is on their label and encompasses the dark blue star. The room has riddling racks to display wines, logo clothing, large format bottles, kids tables, old family photos, and unique gift items.
The family quest is to make “stellar” small lots of ultra-premium hand crafted red wines. Their flagship wine is their “Ricordati” Bordeaux blend to compliment their Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Zinfandel Port. The small vineyard is planted to Zinfandel and they source additional grapes from nearby vineyards.
