Why visit De Tierra Vineyards?
Monterey County is Steinbeck country, with hills that reach brown hands to the sky and valleys that bubble with wildlife. It’s no wonder then that De Tierra Vineyards wants to produce wine that represents the land. Tom Russel started it as an organic grape growing operation in 1998, and now he and his daughter keep up his eco-friendly ways. The father-daughter pair grows their wine to meet the requirements of SIP Certification, a program that looks at everything from cover crops to habitat conservation in a comprehensive approach to sustainability.
Their tasting room is also a celebration of Salinas. Housed in a brick colonial building, it sports airy rooms and comfortable chairs for the bar. The tile floors and dark cupboards give it the relaxed atmosphere you want for any gathering. In fact, they rent out the space for private events, and they will even offer your guests a cheese platter. The platter cost $100 for parties of 25 and $200 for parties between 25 and 50.
If you really want to revel in the land, you can also rent the Vineyard House from De Tierra Vineyards, a charming Airbnb with all the modern comforts you could want and a view of the countryside. The rates change often, but anyone interested can email arussel@dtierra.com or their airbnb.com (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/5135358?s=YpFib1dN)
page.
Regardless of how you approach De Tierra wines, they will give you a wonderful experience and get you close to this little piece of paradise.
