About This Winery

Drytown Cellars is not an “unfortunate” name for a winery. It is named after the town for which it is located, and happens to be one of the largest towns in the foothills during California’s Gold Rush. Drytown had hotels and saloons to accommodate thousands of 49ers. Today, it’s much smaller and probably more hospitable. And the wines there today have astronomically improved since the Gold Rush. The town is ripe with history and Drytown Cellars welcomes visitors to come enjoy it with a glass of wine in hand.
Owner and winemaker Allen Kreutzer and his wife, Suzanne, produce the very best wines from Amador County and Sierra Foothill fruit: zesty Zinfandels, bold Barberas, smooth Syrahs, and savory Sauvignon Blancs, to name just a few. Drytown Cellars’ modern facility is built on the old Vaira Ranch site, which is on the historic State Highway 49. The property is complete with the original barn and ranch home.
Allen was drawn to Amador County because of its high quality fruit. Amador County grapes have a distinctive and intense flavor, and produce exceptional wines. Known for big, tannic Zinfandel, and increasingly for Barbera, the area enjoys a world-class reputation in the wine business, and is increasingly popular among consumers.
Drytown Cellars is dedicated to producing the very best wines-well balanced, intensely flavored, and yet good for every day. They strive to preserve the distinctive fruit characteristics in the wine, to let the vineyard’s taste come through the wine as oppose to a lot of tampering in the winemaker’s cellar. Drytown Cellars welcomes visitors to come and enjoy their delicious creations.
