About This Winery
+ More
The Perata’s initial plantings included Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Their 30 acre vineyard, established in 1980, is completely hand-worked and hand-harvested. The dry farmed grapes are cultivated for small berry size. This produces less tonnage, but a higher skin to pulp ratio for rich extracts which give the wines a fuller flavor. Ten grape varieties are grown.
The tasting room is a rustic and authentic space lined with barrels on an ancient concrete floor. An old wine press is adjacent to the antique wood tasting bar. Along the back wall is a richly colorful mural depicting the Perata family in their northern Italian village.
The property has a lovely garden with pergolas, trellises, a bocce ball court, an outside tasting counter and a BBQ.

Winemaker Bio:
The wines of Fratelli Perata are the result of hard work by owner/winemaker/vineyard manager Gino Perata. Gino is 100% Italian, though he was born and raised in Southern California. Gino's father taught him how to grow good grapes and make excellent wine as he was growing up. His father made sure there was always wine on the table to have with meals. Now as a winemaker, Gino seeks to create wines that follow the Italian tradition. He believes wine is best when paired with good food, good friends and great conversations. In order to ensure his wines pair with food he carefully grows his grapes and crafts the wines to have higher acidity and more body than is typical in California. The acid and body ensure the wines stand up to the heavy and rich Italian dishes that Gino grew up with.
Gino spends much of his time tending the vines in order to ensure he has the best grapes possible. From there he gently cares for the wines until they are ready for release, with some being held as long as four years. He believes that the wines shouldn't be rushed to market. He doesn't make wine to make money, he does it to share his passion and love of wine and food with all who drink his wine. You are unlikely to see Gino in the tasting room because he feels the vines and wines require all of his attention. And who can argue when the wines he makes are so wonderful!
