Turning off highway 246 into Gainey Vineyard, visitors wind along a pepper-tree-lined road that runs alongside well-tended vineyards toward the Spanish-hacienda-style winery and tasting room of Gainey Vineyards. Inside you will find a first class tasting expereince.

The sizeable tasting room is adorned with a tile floor, fireplace and multiple tasting locations. Food, gifts, and views of the patio, lawns and extensive picnic areas further add to the winery’s ambiance. A recipe bin holds complimentary recipes, along with suggested pairings of Gainey wines. A cooler has cheeses and other snack items available for purchase.

The 1,800-acre Gainey Ranch blends Arabian horse facilities, cattle ranching and vineyards. Their grape holdings include vineyards in the cool Santa Rita Hills, as well as in the warmer Santa Ynez Valley. The wines produced include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.

My husband and I first visited this vineyard on our honeymoon August 1983 quite by accident. Loved the tour, very intimate, knowledgeable and our introduction into wine.
We went back on our 25Th and were pleased to find that it is quite the same. Joined the club and still enjoying their wines.

This is a must stop. My wife and I have been to several wineries in this area and this one is our favorite. The staff are very friendly and helping. There is a great gift shop, a learning vineyard, and excellent tours. I enjoy the limited edition syrah. I don't have a least favorite wine.

I love going to Gainey. It is one of the oldest vineyards in Santa Barbara. The tour is one of the best ones. The staff is very friendly and they give a free Snapple to DD. The picnic area is large and very relaxing. The wine has good quality. I like both their whites and reds here. I would come back with friends.

This hacienda was hopping, but it could handle the crowds with its multiple tasting bars. The wine was priced right, and I even got to keep a souvenir glass. Try the 2005 Sauvignon Blanc.

The winery was the last stop of our first day, there was a farmers market set up in the front lot and tri tip cooking over an open oak fire. The winery accepted the vintner visas and we were escorted into a barrel room for our tasting. There are large tasting bars set up on each ends of the barrel room and the servers are both pleasant and knowledgeable. We try 6 reds and I make no wine purchases. Although the wines are good I think I have tri tip sandwiches on my mind. I just purchase a tile coaster and we are on our way to the farmers market out front and a tri tip sandwich. The idea of tasting in the barrel room is unique and yields some of our trips best pictures. I think i was to distracted to enjoy the wines
