Why you should visit Gargiulo Vineyards the next time you visit Napa Valley.
Oakville is one of the most concentrated wine growing areas. The meeting of the Mayacamas and Vaca Mountains leads to sunny summers and well-drained soils, and this is why Jeff and Valerie Gargiulo planted 2 blocks of vineyards here. Jeff had spent years farming, and he recognized the potential in the mountainous, oak tree-filled land. Their vineyards are off the beaten path, just off Oakville Cross, but you will find that you agree with Jeff’s assessment once you are there. The rows of Cabernet Sauvignon vines surround their winery in gentle waves, and the view from their wooden porch reveals a plot that is small but green.
Gargiulo features big Cabs and a Super Tuscan blend. When you are in Napa, you are in Cab country. The area produces world famous red wines. Gargiulo is a great place to experience the power and intensity of the Napa grown Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The Super Tuscan that Gargiulo features is another big wine that will impress you. If you love Tuscan wines, this is a great California version.
When you get to the tasting room, you will find pistachios, cheese and bread sticks to go with the comfortable furnishings and delicious wine. Gargiulo Vineyards loves to decorate with quirky wooden furnishings such as chandeliers made of barrel staves and a floor made from a 1950’s Napa gymnasium floor. Don’t miss the hall of vintage guitars: Jeff Gargiulo even allows people to touch the guitars. They have private and seated tasting experiences, and they allow a variety of wines. You will have to make an appointment, and they only make 2 appointments a day so they tend to get booked far out in advance. It is worth it, however, to enjoy the attentiveness of the staff. Be sure to include it in your next Wine Country visit.
