About This Winery
+ More
Handley Cellars has a wonderful location on the eastern side of the Anderson Valley and boasts a tasting room full of folk art from around the world. They make their wines from their own certified organic vineyards as well as other vineyards, producing a rich selection of still and sparkling wines.
For more than 10 years, Milla Handley has farmed sustainably, using organic methods whenever possible. She has always sought to encourage healthy, living soils, which in turn produce vines that yield more flavorful fruit. She believes that the balanced methods used in organic farming help develop a wine’s expression of regional and varietal character. For these reasons, Milla chose to pursue organic certification for the Handley Cellars Estate Vineyard, a 3-year process that was completed in August 2005. Other fruit sources for Handley wines are sustainably farmed with minimal inputs.
Handley Cellars’ wine-tasting experience includes an eclectic mix of folk art, lovely gardens, a great patio and a range of well made Mendocino wines. The low-slung building sits on the side of a hill with vineyard views. An old British bar shares the space with “elephant chairs” from Thailand, a 22-foot-long ceremonial dugout canoe from Papua New Guinea, and numerous sculptures and antiquities from around the world.
Adjacent to the tasting room area is a wonderful patio lushly planted and adorned with numerous sculptures.
