About This Winery
+ More
This is a rustic, unpretentious micro boutique, a family-run winery found down a long, rough deserted road at the southern end of Alexander Valley. They make a handful of consumer-friendly wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, White Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Johannesburg Riesling, and a luscious, Late-Harvest Zinfandel.
An old tractor greets visitors as you head around to the back of the picnic area and tasting-room entrance. An old barn houses the winery and tasting room, where a vintage pipe organ takes up one complete wall. Rescued from the old Capitol Theatre in Sacramento, the organ can fill the space with dramatic music with its computer-controlled system. It is really quite a sight to see (and hear) up close.
Founded in 1974, and owned and operated by third-generation daughter Ellen Johnson, who is also the winemaker, Johnson’s Winery has become a favorite spot for organ enthusiasts and wine lovers alike. All the wines are sold on the premises, and there is no tasting fee.
