The Lamborn Family Vineyard’s history is unique.
Bill Lamborn decided in 1971 to leave his career as a private investigator and go into the glamorous winery business. He convinced his son to help him buy 2 adjacent plots of land that sat 2,200 feet in elevation on Howell Mountain in Napa. They overlooked the valley, and the land was ruggedly beautiful. They could only plant 14 acres out of the 40 they had, but they enlisted family members to help them. They planted Zinfandel and Cabernets and managed to make 100 cases that the first year. It’s no wonder they named their winery after the family. They are now in the 4rth generation working this estate, but they have not changed their intention. They just want to make small batches of Estate grown handcrafted wines.
The Lamborn Family Vineyard is part of the Ma(i)sonry Napa Valley wine collective. If you want to have the full tasting room experience, you can come to the stone house in Yountville where a wine consultant can create a wine profile that will include Lamborn’s wines. It’s a full aesthetic experience; you’ll sit around wooden tables, listen to a knowledgeable connoisseur describe the inside story of each wine you drink and luxuriate in one of 3 private rooms. In fine weather, there are the beautifully landscaped outdoor gardens, which showcase a stone fire pit, contemporary sculptures, and architectural remnants. When not sipping your wine, you can enjoy the art in the historic building. Lamborn wines fit very well in this venue, and it’s a great part of the Napa Valley experience.
