On the top of the hill just off Union Road you can spot a winery and a stone-sided, Burgundian tasting room. An elegant fountain first greets you as you enter the building. The heavy Old World styled wooden doors open to a grand European inspired room. Stained glass windows, Italian ceramics, original artwork, a fireplace, piano and unique merchandise fill the large space. At the far end is a hand-carved wooden tasting bar with a black marble counter top.

Owners Shannon or Maureen O’Neil are usually on hand to serve their estate bottled wines. The lively yellow interior makes the room bright and airy. On their expansive patio is a second tasting bar surrounded by tables and chairs, a lush green lawn and views to the west. A breezeway separates the tasting room from the winery operation. 

 

Maloy O"Neill Tasting Room

The vineyard was established in 1982 and has provided fruit to Napa and Sonoma county wineries for years. The Irish-named winemaker, Shannon O’Neil, is also half Italian and creates a number of wines, some of which are based on the wines from his mother’s hometown of Gioi in south central Italy.

 
 
Shannon also produces enormous, inky black Syrah’s, huge Zinfandels, big concentrated Cal-Ital & Bordeaux-Style blends and numerous other wines. Maloy O’Neill Vineyards is also known for producing multiple lots of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot and Italian and Bordeaux style blends. The resulting wines have different characteristics due to the diversity of vine ages, clones, microclimates and growing techniques.
 

The winery also offers unique wine seminars and corporate team events. Join Shannon during Harvest Crush for an exciting "hands on" wine making experience. Or learn the Dynamics of Food & Wine, or try the Wine Blending Workshop, or the Awaken Your Senses wine tasting class. Corporate tours, training and team building also available. 
  
Maloy O’ Neill currently have seven Cabernet Sauvignon’s, five Syrah’s, a Pinot Noir, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, Primitivo, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, a late harvest Muscat and a number of blends. Most of the lots are fewer than 300 cases; some are fewer than 300 hundred bottles. This is a wonderful chance to taste the same grape from different vineyards or a different vineyard block, or take the opportunity to try some new wines you have yet to experience.

Great place to stop. The staff was probably the friendliest we encountered on this trip. It was in the middle of the harvest and they actually took us into the back and showed us the harvest in progress and explained it step by step. It was a wonderful experience. The wine is great too.

Very friendly tasting experience with the winemaker himself pouring. A nice story we could share with friends while we shared the wine we bought.

We tried a variety of reds here. It's a decent sized production and pretty nice grounds to match. Don't pass it by...

The staff was friendly and the wines were all very good. My favorites were the Merlot and Petite Sirah. Lots to choose from and great location.

This was the a stop on our harvest weekend tour with some of our group heading to the winery for an impromptu tour of the facility. They are making petite sirah and tasting out of the fermentation tanks alone gives a 4 in 2 categories. The wine is well made and the Tasting Room and surrounding views are amazing. we all felt that it was good wine at a decent price but only 2 of the 3 of us purchased wine and it was their Pinot. A nice stop.

I have visited Maloy O'Neil a few times and it is always a nice relaxing experience with excellent wine. Unique Italian varietals such as Aglianico and Lagrein are used in blends and compliment the long list of great estate varietals. Definitely stop here.
