A charming, free-spirited little winery called Maxville sits between St. Helena and the Aetna Spring Resort. It has the essential Napa look- the building is built low to the ground and surrounded by 1,000 acres of sprawling vines. They also have an essentially Napa take on viticulture. They grow varietals of everything from Pinot Noir to Petite Sirah, and they treat these grapes with tender care, using a combination of old-world tradition and modern technology to create wines that express each variety’s special gifts.

Visiting this winery can be a special gift too. The remodeled tasting room is a truly impressive, airy space perfect for sampling their wines. You will also find the patios magnificent, comfortable spaces that provide views of Chiles Valley.

There are a number of ways to take in this treat too. Maxville Winery offers an Estate Tour and Tasting where you can sample a flight of 4 wines at their tasting bar after a guided tour of the grounds. You can add a cave tour and barrel sampling to this, or go for the Gold Deluxe Package, where you get a trip in a Humvee around the back of the estate. You can also add a cheese and charcuterie pairing or a boxed lunch to any tour and tasting experience.
