Why should you visit McKahn Family Cellars for wine tasting?
Livermore has quite a few wineries these days, and one of these is the McKahn Family Cellars. They specialize in using Rhone varietals, including ones from the Livermore, Napa, Russian River, and Shenandoah Valleys- basically all over Northern California. And this specialization has paid off: their 2016 Petite Sirah won 91 points in the Wine Enthusiast and their 2015 Syrah got 92 points from there. Their wines are fruity with aromas of ripe blackberry.
One of the best ways to explore this Rhone specialization is by dropping by their tasting room in Livermore. The simple elegance here more than compliments the wine. Their bar is polished pine and the room sports a sliding wooden barn door. Their private tasting room kicks it up a notch with hanging chandeliers and wooden drawers. There is even a marble-topped counter for their cash register. It’s a relaxed, seated affair, with comfortable chairs and low lighting. And another plus for those who like to winery-hop: McKahn Family Cellars is situated by a brewery, two distilleries and a bunch of wineries, all of which let you walk in to visit them. You can park in one central location and comparison shop without ever moving far.
A Rhone varietal enthusiast will want to check out their wines, but any wine lover will want to drop by their tasting room for the sipping experience. Just remember that any group bigger than 5 requires a reservation and you are good to go.
