Municipal Winemakers

Municipal Winemakers have opened a new tasting room located in downtown Santa Barbara, on Anacapa St. Their grapes are sourced from Rodney’s and Tierra Alta Vineyards in Santa Barbara County. The wines were created by using handpicked grapes that were fermented as whole clusters and then basket pressed. The wine was then matured in French barrels and never racked. Whole-cluster fermentation is an old method in which the grape stems are not removed. It requires great care and precision because tannins from the stems can be harsh, but when done right, it contributes structure and complexity to the wine. Municipal Winemakers bottled 120 cases in September of 2012. This wine is approachable upon release and should be rocking it over the next 5-7 years.

Municipal Winemakers welcomes visitors to come visit their tasting room and enjoy some great wines and a great time. The tastings are $10 for five wines and they offer at the bar nifty iPads for customer use. From the iPad, visitors can visit their online site and view the tasting notes on each wine and more. Municipal Winemakers have a few more unique offers: they offer free wine delivery if customers show up on bike. They also have a Wine Fountain, which serves wine on tap by the glass, or in 1 Liter Refillable Bottles.
